  • From Pause to Practice: Effective Privileging Strategies for Practitioners Reentering Clinical Practice

Speaker(s):

  • Elizabeth (Beth) J. Korinek, M.P.H
  • Sally J. Pelletier, CPMSM, CPCS

Description:

  • More practitioners are choosing to “pause” their practice to raise children, pursue other interests or because they are burned out. In addition, practitioners are being asked to resume privileges they have not used in years, such as when their employer requires them to move from outpatient to inpatient care. When these practitioners, who lack relevant recent experience, are ready to resume practice, are you prepared to navigate these often complex privileging challenges? Would you be able to alert your medical staff leaders that approving privileges for these practitioners after an extended absence is not always a slam dunk?

Learning objectives:

  • Upon completion, the participant will be able to describe the changing clinician workforce and the need for clinicians returning to practice or resuming privileges they have not used in years
  • Upon completion, the participant will be able to utilize the credentialing and privileging processes to address requests for privileges consistently and effectively
  • Upon completion, the participant will be able to identify resources or processes to support practitioners who are resuming patient care or resuming specific procedures after an extended absence.
