2019 Educational Conference Recording: Balancing the Quality Roles of the Medical Staff and the Service Lines

Title: Balancing the Quality Roles of the Medical Staff and the Service Lines

Speakers: Catherine Ballard, Esq. & Stephen Kleinman, Esq.

Description: Over the past 10 years, most hospitals have begun to develop “Service Lines” separate and distinct from the Medical Staff structure. Although fiscally driven, there is a very strong quality component as these service lines strive to meet defined quality indicators and are promoted to achieve a stronghold in the market place. The problem is that there is often a substantial overlap between the quality responsibilities of the Service Line Chief and the quality responsibilities of the Medical Staff. The purpose of this session is to discuss the distinctive roles in relation to credentialing, corrective action, professional practice evaluation, and when and how this information should (and should not) be shared.
